On November 26, 2022, a groundbreaking workshop on Basic Financial Management for Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) took place at Al-nor Mall in Cotabato City. The event, which aimed to enhance the financial skills of women officers from various NGOs in regions 9, 10, and 12, was made possible through the joint efforts of the Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society Organizations (CBCS) and UN Women.

The seminar provided a valuable platform for female leaders to gain essential knowledge and insights into the intricacies of financial management within the nonprofit sector. Among the important topics covered during the event were the recordkeeping requirements for NGOs and the drafting of budget proposals for projects. These subjects were expertly handled by Mr. Almansor Pendatun, a professional in the field of financial management.

Mr. Pendatun, shared his wealth of knowledge and experience with the enthusiastic participants. His engaging lecture provided practical insights and effective strategies to enhance financial operations within NGOs, ensuring transparency, accountability, and successful project implementation.

The activity was attended by select women officers who represented various NGOs in regions 9, 10, and 12. The event provided a unique opportunity for these leaders to network, exchange ideas, and learn from one another's experiences. The diverse backgrounds and perspectives present contributed to a rich learning environment, allowing participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of financial management best practices tailored to the unique needs of NGOs.

The Consortium of Bangsamoro Civil Society Organizations (CBCS), a prominent association that advocates for the rights and welfare of marginalized communities, played a pivotal role in organizing and funding the event. Their commitment to empowering women leaders within NGOs aligns with UN Women's mission to promote gender equality and women's empowerment.

Both the CBCS and UN Women recognize the significant role played by NGOs in advancing socio-economic development and addressing critical issues in local communities. By equipping women officers with essential financial management skills, they aim to strengthen the capacity of NGOs and ensure the effective utilization of funds for impactful projects.

The workshop not only provided valuable insights into financial management but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and collaboration among participants. The interactive sessions allowed for the sharing of experiences and the identification of common challenges faced by NGOs in the region. By creating a supportive network of empowered women leaders, the event promoted sustainable development and encouraged the implementation of effective financial management practices across various organizations.

As the participants return to their respective organizations, armed with enhanced financial management skills, the positive effects of this workshop are expected to reverberate throughout the nonprofit sector in the region. By equipping women leaders with the necessary tools and knowledge, the event has paved the way for more transparent, accountable, and impactful initiatives that will shape a better future for the Bangsamoro region.
